Happy St. Patrick's Day From Sky Ranch SkyMoms

Today as I began searching my closet to find something green to wear to stay safe from my teenage daughters pinching fingers I began wonder WHY???....So, while trying to find out a little more about St. Patrick's Day I came across this article...still not sure how pinching got started!  Do you?

While St. Patrick's Day is now associated mostly with "all things Irish," it is actually a celebrated by Christian people around the world. Most people think of St. Patrick's Day as celebrating in green and gold, wearing shamrocks, and eating corned beef and cabbage. Yet, for Christians there is a deeper meaning to St. Patrick's Day that Christian teens can learn about and practice.

Why March 17th?

There are several theories as to why St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17th each year, but most people believe that it is because St. Patrick died on March 17th in AD 461. As the Irish emigrated from Ireland, they took their holiday and celebrations with them, allowing everyone to partake in the celebration of Ireland's patron saint.

How is St. Patrick's Day Commemorated?

While many people know about wearing green and shamrocks, there are other spiritual celebrations that take place on St. Patrick's Day. In Irelandvirtually all businesses close on that day. Special masses take place in churches around the world, and Christians partake in prayers for missionaries around the world. Often these services precede exuberant celebrations.
In cities around the world with large Irish populations the post-mass celebrations include parades, Irish music and songs, and Irish food and drink. Some cities plan large celebrations. For instance, the city of Chicago dyes the river green every year in commemoration of the holiday andBoston hosts one of the most prominent St. Patrick's Day parades around the world.

What Does St. Patrick's Day Mean for Christian Teens?

St. Patrick's Day is a celebration that holds a lot of spiritual meaning for Christian teens. First, the holiday is a traditional day for spiritual renewal. It is a day that Christian teens can use to reflect on their spiritual walk and reflect on their relationship with God. St. Patrick found that renewal, because he considered himself a pagan before he became a slave and discovered his relationship with God through prayer.
Second, Christian teens can use the time to pray for missionaries around the world and consider the calling on their lives to become missionaries either in their schools or in other areas of the world. St. Patrick was adept at speaking and converting pagans in Ireland, and he faced many trials due to his mission work. Missionaries today face many of the same trials, and need the prayers of Christians near and far.

Lisa Life Lesson ~"Have you prayed for your children today?"

Have you prayed for your children today?

Your answer might be an absolute "YES!" or it might be, "Not yet but I'm gonna!"  or it might even be, "Humm, well no.  Should I?"  The reality is, if you don't lift up the name of your children to the Lord on a daily basis, then who is?  Maybe a grandparent, or teacher?  But if parents don't claim the promises of God on behalf of their children through prayer then we are failing our children.  Deuteronomy reminds us, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.  And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes."  Deuteronomy 6:5-8.

It's our privilege and honor to pray for our children and teach them the ways and truths of the Lord.  We are the only parents they have.  When we pray for our children, we are surrendering them, once again, to the Almighty God who created them and desires for a relationship with them.

If we do nothing else for our kids today, let's pray for them.

"Praying God's Will for Your Children" by Lee Roberts is a great book filled with scripture to pray over your kids.  Whatever they are going through, there is a scripture to claim on behalf of them.  God's word is real and alive.  Claim it today!

Who likes BRUNCH?....

I do!!....Today I am in the mood for some "Brunch" like foods...the weather is still a little crisp, and the sun is shinning.  I have my cup of coffee while sitting at the computer woking on Sky Ranch SkyMom Events and a piece of a breakfast casserole just sounds so yummy...so I thought it might for you too....
so I thought I would share with you today some of my favorite BRUNCH foods...enjoy!

Sausage Rolls

2 packages cresent rolls
1 lb sausage, browned
1 8 ounce container of cream cheese

Roll out cresent tolls and press seams together.  Mix sausage and cream cheese.  Spread ½ sausage mixture on cresent roll to within 1 inch of edge.  Roll lengthwise.  Refrigerate.  Cut into ½ inch slices.  Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 375.

Breakfast Muffins

2 sticks real butter, melted
2 cups self rising flour
8 oz sour cream

Preheat oven to 350.  Mix all ingredients together.  Spoon into muffin pan – no need to line or spray with non stick spray.  For regular muffins, bake 20-25 minutes – until toothpick pulls clean.  For Mini muffins, bake 10-15 minutes.  Makes about 8 regular muffins and lots of mini muffins.  I have only done mini muffins and people always love them.

Apple Dumpling

2 cresent rolls
2 granny smith apples
1 ½ stick butter
1 ½ cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 12 ounce Mt Dew or Mello Yellow

Peel apples.  Wrap in rolls.  Melt butter and mix in cinnamon and sugar.  Get 9 x 12 dish.  Preheat 350.  Pour sugar mix over rolls.  Pour Mt. Dew over  Bake 350 for 1 hour.  You can serve ice cream over if wanted.

Breakfast Casserole

1 pound ground pork sausage
10 white sandwich bread slices, cubed (6 cups)
2 cups (8 ounces) sharp cheddar cheese
6 large eggs
2 cups milk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp dry mustard
¼ tsp Worcestershire sauce

Cook sausage in a skillet over med heat, stirring until crumbles and is no longer pink, drain well.  Place bread crumbles in a lightly greased 13 x 9  inch baking dish  -- sprinkle bread evenly with cheese to top sausage.  Whisk together eggs and remaining ingredients.  Cover and chill casserole for 8 hours.  Let stand room temp 30 minutes.  Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until set.  Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
