Sky Ranch Family Devotional Better Together…God is Your Creator, with Stacy A. Davis ~ Bible Teacher and Sky Ranch Board Member

Family Time 1:
Family Fun Icebreaker: What do you like about the person to your right?

Topic 1 Question: What is God’s Community?

Today’s Big Idea: God is Your Creator

To understand God’s community, you have to start with the Originator of the community, the Creator, God. God created everything. And, God lovingly created YOU! At the beginning of creation, a story started to unfold--God’s story. You are a living part of His story. Your creation is not random, but planned; your life is planned by God. This thought leads to a great question that everyone wonders…why? Why are you here? Why did God create YOU?
God answers this question in Isaiah 43:7 (NLT), which states, “Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them.” Glory means you are made for God’s own honor. You are made by God, and for God, and the credit goes to Him. He wants you to reflect His beauty and worth to others. Psalm 139 shares an amazing insight that God made you exactly as you are! Be thankful and praise Him! His works are wonderful, know that fully and well!

Talk with God: Read the scriptures aloud.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1 (ESV)
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he
created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27 (ESV)
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your
works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14 (NIV)

Walk with God: Read aloud and discuss.
God created you, but there is more: you are designed for a purpose. Your life has meaning. God is the One who reveals to you the reason that you are here. Romans 12:1 tells you that your life, or lifestyle, is to serve God. In order for your purpose to be fulfilled, you may have to give up living the way that you want; ask yourself if God is asking you to live differently from the way that you desire. His Word encourages you to change if you desire a sinful lifestyle, or a lifestyle that opposes God’s teaching. As you spend time with God, He will show you His design for your life. God asks His community to be selfless and servant-hearted, fulfilling the good works that He has designed, so the unit will function well as a whole.

Discuss with your family: Read Ephesians 2:10 (NLT): “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago...” Do you think that you are created for good things in Jesus? Do you think God has designed a personal plan for your life? Why or why not?

Prayer suggestion: Praise and thank God for making YOU!

I will be praying for you!
