Teach Intentionally..."Family Time…Forgiveness and Freedom", with Stacy A. Davis ~ Bible Teacher and Sky Ranch Board Member

Family Time…Forgiveness and Freedom

Encourage forgiveness in your family and your hearts will feel the freedom they deserve! This month’s family time topic from the “Sky Ranch Family Devotional: Follow the Leader” is on “Jesus forgives and heals you“ and the weekly discussion is on “Forgive like Jesus and freedom.“ This week is such a positive message and one of the amazing blessings of trusting Jesus. As a Mom, walk alongside your kids and teach them about the true release that you feel when you forgive others. Encouraging forgiveness will restore harmony to your family and bring peace to each person and the whole family.

This week in your family time, I would encourage you to prepare by praying for your family and ask God to reveal if any of you harbor anger toward each other or someone outside the family. Anger is very normal, but if you ignore it or release it incorrectly, it will cause problems. Forgiveness is a very necessary response to anger. But forgiveness can feel awkward at first and it is not commonly your first response when you have been wronged. It has to be taught. Pray for God to give you the words to talk to your family about healthy ways to forgive and share the freedom that you feel when you make the choice to forgive.

Do you have questions or need prayer for your family? Email me at SkyMoms@skyranch.org.
I will be praying for you!

This week we are in the 4th  Topic and 21st  Family Time (or page  42) of the Sky Ranch Family Devotional “Follow the Leader”…
Family Time 21:
Topic 4: Jesus forgives and heals you… Forgive like Jesus and freedom
Talk with God: Read… Scriptures and questions below.
Ephesians 4:32  And be kind to one another, tender-hearted,  forgiving  each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.
  • In Eph. 4:32, once forgiven, how do you treat each other?

Colossians 3:12  And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;  13  bearing with one another, and  forgiving  each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.
  • In Col. 3:13, since God forgave you, what do you do?

James 5:15  …and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be  forgiven  him.  16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
  • In Jam. 5:15, the prayer offered in faith will restore what?
  • In Jam. 5:16, in order to be healed, what do you do?
  • In Jam. 5:16, much is accomplished by what?

Walk with God: Discuss… Anger, bitterness, resentment are not pleasant to live with. There is a reason that God commands you to forgive. How do you treat others once you are forgiven? Is there anyone that you need to forgive or pray for?

Prayer suggestion… Pray for God’s help to forgive others.

Family Time 21:
Leader Answers:
  • Forgive each other and be kind, tender-hearted
  • Forgive each other
  • Restore the one who is sick
  • Confess your sins, pray for one another
  • The effective prayer of a righteous man
  • Discussion ideas:  Anger is the feeling you have when you have been treated unjustly. Is there someone in the family or a friend that you are angry with? Pray and ask God to call it to mind. Then, forgive them.  Forgiveness is giving up your right to punish them by words, actions, or even ignoring them. God commands you to forgive and for your benefit. If you don’t forgive, it is disobedience to God, plus you can become bitter and harbor anger which can cause many problems. Free yourself from the trap of anger and forgive…what is the benefit of this freedom?

Prayer Encouragement: "A Simple Answer" by SkyMom, Terrie Chevaillier

A Simple Answer

All you need to say is simply 'Yes' or 'No'
Anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
Matthew 5:37

Maybe. We'll see. Yes..I'll think about it. Not now....maybe later.
Probably. In a minute. Next week. Next time.

Have any of these phrases ever come out of your mouth behind a 'yes' or a 'no' when what you really wanted to say or didn't want to say but needed to say instead.....was just a simple 'yes' or 'no'?

I can sadly say that these phrases have caused me more displeasure and agony than pleasure over the small amount of time they bought me before having to deliver the real truth....a 'yes' or a 'no'.

I have used these escape phrases with my children.  Sometimes just too distracted busy or tired, I caved to phrases that were laced with hope but disappointed or misled a precious heart to the real truth.

I've used them with friends when I didn't want to say what the Spirit in me was leading me to say....a simple 'yes' or 'no'.  Those instances were moments of people pleasing.

I've used these phrases to support a 'yes' or a 'no' thus digging myself into a hole with my words that was embarrassingly hard to crawl out of.  Extra words that left me wanting to run away before more supporting statements dug the trench deeper.

When we go to God's Word, His truth gives us a simple answer to give out and a very awakening revelation of where the less than simple over use of words come from.

Let's Pray God's Word with our children's hearts in our minds:
Dear Father, thank You for Your Word that gives answers to life's complexities.
Show me where I need conviction and repentance in this area.
Where have I wounded my children's hearts and caused unnecessary disappointment?
Show me where I have misused or stewarded money doing clean up duty with things I promised my children but knew it was money I shouldn't be spending .
You tell me it is simple.  When Your Spirit guides me into all truth....please nudge my heart to obediently answer 'yes' or 'no'.
You Word says that any thing beyond those two words can come from the evil one.
Where is the evil one stealing our time because I have misled people with my words in regards to overcommitting myself or my children?
What relationships or hearts are being damaged because of my unwillingness to be boldly and courageously honest?
Lead me to be a mom that speaks the truth and keeps a word.  Guard my mouth from delivering anything beyond that truth and keep me aware of the evil one.
Thank You for Your Holy Spirit to guide me.
Amen

Teach Intentionally..."Family Time…Change ", with Stacy A. Davis ~ Bible Teacher and Sky Ranch Board Member

Family Time…Change

Change can be refreshing and in scripture change is life giving. This month’s family time topic from the “Sky Ranch Family Devotional: Follow the Leader” is on “Jesus forgives and heals you“ and the weekly discussion is on “Jesus changes us and Jesus’ Kingdom.“ Often, people don’t want to think about the importance of changing into Jesus’ Kingdom and what is being implied. If you moved into God’s Kingdom, then what were you in before? Scripture explains that by default all people start out in Satan’s kingdom. God says that He has allowed Satan to rule earth and in Colossians 1:13-14 all people were in the domain of darkness. But, thanks to Jesus, you are delivered and transferred into God’s Kingdom at the point of belief! Whew! This can be a tough truth to hear but an important one! Can you imagine being stuck in the old kingdom because no one ever told you about Jesus? Take the time to talk to those you care about and explain the important choice they are making!

This week in your family time, I would encourage you to prepare by praying for your family by asking God if anyone needs more explanation on this important change that takes place when you trust Jesus.  Pray that God will give you the words to explain this life changing truth. Encourage your family to discuss this process of change so that all of their questions are answered. These truths can seem complicated; pray for God to give your family a child-like faith and for His help in understanding reconciliation.

Do you have questions or need prayer for your family? Email me at SkyMoms@skyranch.org.
I will be praying for you!

Family Time 20:
Topic 4: Jesus forgives and heals you...Jesus changes us and Jesus’ Kingdom
Talk with God: Read… Scriptures and questions below.
Colossians 1:13-14   For He delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14  in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
  • In Col. 1:13, once you are redeemed and forgiven, what are you transferred from?

Romans 5:10  For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
  • In Rom. 5:10, What does Jesus’ death do?

Acts 13:38  "Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,  39  and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.”
  • In Acts 13:39, when you believe what are you freed from?

2 Corinthians 5:20  … we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled  to God.  21  He made Him who knew no sin [to be] sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
  • In 2 Cor. 5:20, when you become the righteousness of God in Jesus, what happens?
Walk with God: Discuss… Good news! You don’t have to stay stuck in Satan’s kingdom. What happens to you once you are forgiven and reconciled to God?
Prayer suggestion… Pray for God to change you.
Family Time 20:
Leader Answers:
  • From the domain of darkness to the Kingdom of God’s Son (Jesus)
  • Reconciles us to God and saves our lives
  • All things (meaning sins)
  • You are reconciled to God
  • Discussion ideas: Reconciled to God means having peace with God because it is now right between you and Him. When you sin against God, only God can forgive your sins. So, Jesus being God in the flesh came to forgive your sins against God. If you believe that the sin debt was cancelled and salvation was accomplished on the cross, you will repent, choose to stop habitually sinning, be made right with God through Jesus and move into Jesus’ Kingdom. Do you want to be in Jesus’ Kingdom? Why?

Spinach Tortellini Soup

Spinach Tortellini Soup

Recently, I was reading a blog that I enjoy and came across this yummy recipe, so I just had to share it here with SkyMoms... I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Spinach Tortellini Soup
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 fresh garlic cloves, pressed
2 cans chicken broth (or 4 chicken bouillon cubes dissolved in 4 cups hot water)
1 cup uncooked cheese-filled tortellini (frozen, fresh, or dried)
1 can petite-diced tomatoes, undrained
1 t. dried basil leaves
1 package (10 oz) frozen chopped spinach, thawed (I use about 1/2 package)
 Fresh Parmesan cheese, grated
Salt for individual servings, if desired

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.  Add onion and garlic.  Cook until tender, about 2 minutes.  Careful!  Garlic burns easily.

Add broth immediately and bring to a boil.  Add tortellini and cook according to package directions until tender.  Do not drain.

Stir in tomatoes, basil, and spinach.  Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes or allow to cook very low and covered until ready to serve.

Using a Microplane Zester, grate fresh Parmesan cheese over individual servings of soup.  Have each person salt to taste, if desired.

Yield:  4-5 servings

Lisa Life Lesson- 'Letting Dad Lead'

Letting Dad Lead

Moms, I want to get straight to the point today, so here goes...

If your husband is willing to lead your family and is trying to lead your family, let your husband lead your family.  Over and over again, I see moms stepping in and "quieting" dad, in hopes he doesn't ruffle family feathers or get in the way of a well constructed plan by mom and kids.

Give dad a break, moms.  Bring him into the family dynamic.  Let him in on your private conversations with your kids.  Share with him what is happening on a daily basis.  Make sure he's aware of struggles, praises and relationships.

Just because you're with the kids more, doesn't mean you can discount his parental responsibility and ability to lead.  Many times dad doesn't lead a family because mom has made it very clear she's large and in charge and he can't do it as well as she does.

Biblically, dad is meant to lead his wife and children.  You are the heartbeat of the home, caring for your husband and children.  Pray for your husband everyday.  If you struggle with letting him lead, pray about that.  You respect him by allowing him to lead.

This isn't always easy.  Marriage is full of give and take moments.  I like to think of family as a team.  If we were all quarterbacks then there would be no one to throw the ball to.

God bless you Mom! You are loved!
xoxo,

Prayer Encouragement: "A MUST READ!" by SkyMom, Terrie Chevaillier

A MUST READ!

Consider this a SkyMoms prayer update/book recommend.
In December 2011, SkyMoms prayed for Lauren Scruggs.
Lauren and her family are closely connected to some of the Sky Ranch family
and her tragic story quickly spread worldwide.
On December 16, SkyMoms joined together in prayer for this sweet girl and her family.
Well…..I do not know Lauren personally, but I took the opportunity last week to read her book as I had seen it in bookstores and couldn’t stop thinking about it as I remembered that we had prayed earnestly for her healing.
I wanted to know how those prayers had been answered.
So, I finally bought it and started reading it and could not put it down.
I finished it in just a few days….it is that good and very well written.
I do not know Lauren, or her family, however after reading her book,
I would say that it confirms that there is POWER IN PRAYER!
If you have not read it….you must.  You will be blessed, filled with hope, and courage to persevere in your current situation, struggle, or yet to be answered prayers for yourself or your children.
Moms….God answers prayer.  He hears us when we storm heaven on behalf of his children.  He promises us that when we call out to Him that He hears.
And, what a joy to know that SkyMoms had the opportunity to call on the name of Jesus for this girl who I believe God is using to advance His kingdom and His purpose here on earth.
Still LoLo by Lauren Scruggs
Be encouraged!

Teach Intentionally..."Family Time…Healing ", with Stacy A. Davis ~ Bible Teacher and Sky Ranch Board Member

Family Time…Healing

Starting new, with a renewed energy sounds great! Each year brings a new hope of a better tomorrow. Leaving the old behind and moving on with the hope of a better you. The hope found in Jesus is very similar to this idea. This month’s family time topic from the “Sky Ranch Family Devotional: Follow the Leader” is on “Jesus forgives and heals you” and the weekly discussion is on “Jesus heals from sin and death.“ In the family devotional, your family will have the opportunity to talk about the hope Jesus brings by moving you from an old and broken state to a new, energized and better state when you believe Jesus. Jesus transforms you and gives you a better future. But to really appreciate Jesus’ gift for you, you will need to look at the life that you were spared from. It may be a little painful, but keep the focus on the new hope and life that you are promised in Jesus.

This week in your family time, I would encourage you to prepare by praying for your family and asking God to help your family see all of the good that God has blessed you with in Jesus. Jesus interceded for each person who believes Him. And Jesus heals your broken relationship with God. Encourage your family to talk about healthy healing and that our hearts need to heal too. Pray for your family to truly see Jesus’ gift to you so that your family celebrates and come to Him with thankful hearts.

Do you have questions or need prayer for your family? Email me at SkyMoms@skyranch.org.
I will be praying for you!

This week we are in the 4th  Topic and 19th  Family Time (or page  40 ) of the Sky Ranch Family Devotional “Follow the Leader”…
Family Time 19:
Topic 4: Jesus forgives and heals you…Jesus heals from sin and death
Talk with God: Read… Scriptures and questions below.
Isaiah 53:5  But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being [fell] upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
  • In Isaiah 53:5, how are you healed?

Isaiah 53:11  As a result of the anguish of His (Jesus) soul, He (God)  will see [it] and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One,  My Servant , will justify the many,…
  • In Isaiah 53:11, what did God do and why?

Ephesians 2:4  But God, being rich  in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
  • In Eph. 2:5, you were (spiritually) dead, how were you made alive?

Romans 8:11  But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also  give  life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you.
  • In Rom. 8:11, what happens to your mortal body?

Walk with God: Discuss… Ephesians 2:8 says you are saved by God’s grace and your faith in Jesus has saved you. It is a gift from God. But, how does Jesus heal you?
Prayer suggestion…  Pray for forgiveness and healing.

Family Time 19:
Leader Answers:
  • By His scourging
  • God saw the anguish of Jesus and was satisfied, Jesus justified the many
  • Together with Christ
  • The Spirit of God gives life to your mortal body
  • Discussion ideas: Because of your sin, you should have been on the cross. You were supposed to pay for your sin by your own death. Without Jesus, you would not have escaped the fire of hell but you would have stayed there eternally.  But Isaiah 53:11 tells us that Jesus interceded for us, God was satisfied with Jesus and Jesus justified the people who believe Him and thru Jesus’ right standing with God…when you believe, you are made right with God so you are spared the fire of hell and permanent eternal separation from God.  Jesus’ death paid the price for you and healed you from your sinful state. Believers do still occasionally sin, but you will not habitually sin as a lifestyle, because it will grieve God and you. What is the difference between habitual and occasional sin?

Prayer Encouragement: "A Promise" by SkyMom, Terrie Chevaillier

A Promise

Once I was young, and now I am old.
Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.
Psalm 37: 25

Turn on the news or read the news and we hear forecasts of doom, gloom, and despair.
Open up God's Word and read hope, promise, and future. We read promise in the midst of despair. We read truth and it sinks into our hearts. Out of our hearts flow what comes out of our mouths.
SkyMoms want to be beacons of light in the midst of negative talk about the future of our children.
God's promises for our children are not government or media promises. They are sovereign promises from a holy and just God.  His promises are true and His Word will not fail.

Let's pray God's Word:
Dear Father, thank You for Your Word that reminds me and points me to truth.
Help me to know it so I can encourage my children with it.
The psalm of David tells us that he lived long enough to observe the lives of those who loved You and obeyed You....the Godly.
This promise in psalm 37 says that he did not see Your people abandoned.
When media speaks negative, let Your Word be the light we run to and claim.
It does not speak of abandonment.
My children fall underneath Your umbrella of protection.
They will be cared for because they are Your children.
Thank You that we can rest in this truth that speaks of good and not evil.
Amen

Teach Intentionally..."Family Time…How are you forgiven? ", with Stacy A. Davis ~ Bible Teacher and Sky Ranch Board Member

Family Time…How are you forgiven?

A new year means new beginnings! I love the potential of a new year. It is a chance to start over! I enjoy painting and I love the blank canvas because it represents all the potential of creating something new. It is the same feeling you have when you have been cleared of any charge, including being a new person in Jesus. You have a new beginning and there is so much potential of all that you can be in Him. This month’s family time topic from the “Sky Ranch Family Devotional: Follow the Leader” is on “Jesus forgives and heals you“ and the weekly discussion is on “How are you forgiven?“ As your family continues the discussions of Jesus’ mission of being sent to earth to forgive and heal you, a natural question will be to ask...how are your forgiven? What do you need to do to be forgiven by God? During family time, your family has talked about sin and forgiveness. But you still need to have a conversation on confession and repentance. Confession to God is an outspoken agreement with God that you have sinned against Him and repenting to God is apologizing and committing to change your behavior by no longer continuing to act offensively toward God. Once you have committed to repent in your heart and confessed it with your mouth to someone else, then God accepts your apology when you believe in Jesus and you are cleared of your debt against God.

As a Mom, the best way to relate confession and repentance to God was to compare it to confession and repentance in the relationship with my kids. God gives our life on earth as an example and we can use it to explain the spiritual relationship with God. I just paralleled how our family handled resolving a family fight to resolving your fight with God. Both work in a similar way. The two are enemies because of sin, the sinner confesses and commits to stop sinning and asks forgiveness, the sinner changes and no longer offends, the offended person forgives and gives up their right to punish the sinner, and peace between the two is made. It is simply a commitment in the heart and mind and spoken to God in prayer.

This week in your family time, I would encourage you to prepare by praying for your family and asking God to help your family celebrate the potential of a new year and explain God’s forgiveness to your family and the ability to start over with a new beginning in God’s eyes. These are important topics and even though your family may tell you they understand, it is still a good idea to repeat it. Pray for God to work on their hearts and draw anyone to Him that still is not in a relationship of peace with Him.

Do you have questions or need prayer for your family? Email me at SkyMoms@skyranch.org.
I will be praying for you!

This week we are in the 4th Topic and 18th  Family Time (or page 39 ) of the Sky Ranch Family Devotional “Follow the Leader”…
Family Time 18:
Topic 4: Jesus forgives and heals you…How are you forgiven?
Talk with God: Read… Scriptures and questions below.
Acts 2:36  "Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ-- this Jesus whom you crucified."  …38  And Peter [said] to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
  • In Acts 2:38, what is the first thing to do if you want your sins forgiven?
  • In Acts 2:38, what is received?

Colossians 2:13  …(This is about what God did through Jesus)  He made you alive together with Him, having  forgiven  us all our transgressions,  14  having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us [and] which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
  • In Col. 2:13, how does God make you alive with Jesus?

1 John 5:13  These things I have written to you who  believe  in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.
  • In 1 John 5:13, what do you need to do in order to have eternal life?

Walk with God: Discuss… You can have your debt to God cancelled! Your payment for sin can be made. What do you do to be forgiven? What is repenting? What will you receive?

Prayer suggestion… Pray for God to forgive your sins.

Family Time 18:
Leader Answers:
  • Repent
  • The gift of the Holy Spirit
  • By forgiving all of our transgressions (sin), cancelled out debt, and taking it out of the way
  • Believe in the name of the Son of God, Jesus
  • Discussion ideas: In order to be forgiven, you need to repent. Repenting involves confessing (agreeing with God on) sin and making a change so that you no longer do the sinful behavior as a lifestyle. Accept and believe Jesus. Then, receive the Holy Spirit who will help you stop sinning. Why would you want help to stop habitually sinning?

Lisa Life Lesson ~"Goal Setting 2013!!!"

Goal Setting 2013

The beginning of a calendar year is a great time to sit down as a family
(or individual)
and set goals for the months ahead.

Luke 2:52 says,
"And Jesus grew in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and man."

So it seems to me that God has given us a clear template for goal setting.
4 areas of life to grow and mature:
wisdom (intellectually, academically),
stature (physically, healthy living),
in favor with God (spiritual growth areas) and
man (service, community, giving back).

Candace Snyder (SkyMom) and her family created a goal setting board a few years back after a Skymoms Gathering related to goal setting, and continue to update the board every year as a family project.  Thank you, Candace, for sharing your creativity with us!

Happy Goal Setting 2013!!!
