Blessing the Priests in Your Home

The Lord Bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face to shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.  Numbers 6: 24-26

In the Old Testament, there is what was called a Levitical priesthood.  Moses brother Aaron was chosen and anointed by God to be the head priest.  Aaron and his sons led the Israelites in the sacrifices that were made at the temple.  The Lord told Moses to tell Aaron and his sons how to bless the Israelite people.  The passage in Numbers 6:22-26 is called The Priestly Blessing.

If you have children in your home that have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, you have a kingdom of priests living in your home that you can bless and pray over. Even if your children haven’t come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and savior, pray that this would be true in their lives.   1 Peter 2:9 says, but you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

So, how do you bless the little and big priests in your home?  Do you struggle with what to say that would affirm them or show them value?  Maybe you bless them by serving them or praying for them or sacfricing  time and money for them. Many ways to be a blessing to them.  Do you ever speak a blessing over them?  If not, perhaps think about saying something like this:

I am praying that the Lord would bless you and keep you today as you enter into hard things at school.  I also ask that he would make his face shine on you and be gracious to you today and that others would see Jesus in you as your face lights up the crowd around you.  As you go through the day, I pray that you would see the Lord turning his face towards you in the hard and easy places today and that you would experience His peace.   I can’t wait to hear tonight how He blesses you.  Be looking for it and waiting for it so you won’t miss it!

When you do this, you are praying the Words of The Almighty and One True God over your child.  It’s not your own will that you prayed or spoke- it is The Sovereign God’s will for your children!  Be encouraged and be blessed as you bless them out the door and back in the door!
