Consistency and Growth - Better Together Devotional by Stacy A. Davis

Family Fun Icebreaker: What is a good decision that you made? Why?

Topic Question: What is the Right Lifestyle in God’s Community?

Today’s Big Idea: Consistency and Growth
When you join God’s community, there is always something for YOU to do. You don’t just join the community and sit there. God calls you to join a life of action, encouraging you to spend time in His Word, praying, and serving others. You will be able to look back at your life and know that you have lived correctly. Your path through life will shine brightly if you listen to God. God shares that He guides His people to the right path for His name’s sake, and this right path restores your soul (Psalm 23:3). God wants your life to reflect His heart. He wants all of us to succeed according to His plans. Psalm 11:7 tells you God is righteous. He is not asking you to do something that He does not do; He wants you to do as He does. God also shares that He loves righteousness and justice, and that the earth is full of His loving-kindness (Psalm 33:5).

Talk with God: Read the scripture aloud.
But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which
shines brighter and brighter until full day. Proverb 4:18 (ESV)

Walk with God: Read aloud and discuss.
You may wonder, how can your path in life shine brighter and brighter? God shares that His right way brings your soul out of trouble (Psalm 143:11). God’s right way cleans you up, making your path bright and clean. God’s right way and justice are foundational to His teachings (Psalm 89:14). You can build on His right lifestyle and it will endure forever (Psalm 111:3). His right way will not change. You don’t need to worry that your effort of following His ways will be a waste. His right way will be the same in heaven and continue on into eternity. Over time, you will be able to look back at your life and the path behind; you will shine brighter and brighter from the good works that you have done for Him.

Discuss with your family: Can you think of recent good decisions that you made because you asked God for help? Did those good decisions help your heart look wise? If you keep turning to God, what would a lifetime of good decisions make your life look life?

Prayer suggestion: Pray for God’s help to make the right decisions.
